My colleagues were complaining that it was too quiet, and that they wanted some music to listen to. I've got speakers on my monitor, so helpfully offered to unplug my headphones and listen to music out loud. I even helpfully removed the album I had been listening to (Data Plague by Primary Slave¹) and put in Odyssey (1992-2002) by Juno Reactor.
This did not, apparently, meet with their approval - they wanted something like Heart or Magic FM. [sigh]
Headphones back on. [grin]
(I've also got the best of Suzanne Vega (Retrospective) and the best of Peter Gabriel (Shaking the Tree) in my bag, but I happen to like Juno Reactor.)
¹ No, I'd never heard of them either - charity shop purchase - semi-industrial metallish, dating from 2000, on the Visible Noise label.
ephemera might like them.

I told them about 'Soft Rock Fridays' at Sane and they were aghast at the thought.

At the moment there's Radio 1 coming out of PC speakers at the desk next to me, and Juno Reactor in my headphones. I'm glad I've got a pair of proper over-ear shells ...

Well, until TwoTroughs started complaining. If it was audible, it was too loud! Eventually, the thing was taken away, thus reducing the (already negligible) love for him in the office!
Headphones are also now verboeten. A couple of (now departed) colleagues, JungleTrekker and LaidBack, used to plug themselves in when doing work that didn't need distractions. We then got a decree from on high saying that people walking through the department thought that it looked unprofessional, and we would henceforth ceases and desist. (Never mind the shouting, horseplay and general carry-on that goes on in other departments...) A pity, really, else I'd get some benefit from my paid Spotify account!

That's what I use my phones for ... but that's most of the time!
I don't like having the radio on, because I don't like most of what they pley (which is distracting) and talk radio is also distracting.

Oh, and yes, of course I will be playing things other than Depeche Mode. ;-)

Why would you do something like that? [grin]
Let me guess - will there be some Helium Vola on the playlist too? (I was listening to that compilation that you did for

Ooh, I'd forgotten about that! I haven't listened to Helium Vola in a while. I can be kind of flighty about certain bands, listening to them like crazy for weeks and then forgetting all about them.
While the musical theme will be mostly alternative, I'll be having different nights - rock, indie, darkwave, etc. Of course, being able to claim tax on all musical purchases is a rather fortunate bonus!

[grin] I think that there were three Helium Vola tracks on the one double CD!
Nice.

I'm assuming that this is not a band about a pregnant teenage nuclear power station.
NB, a word to the wise, if you're office has a radio playing aloud, then the organisation may want to cover itself with a PRS Music Licence; if it's playing cds, then a phonographic licence.
There's no obligation to get either of these, if the organisation doesn't mind the odds of a fine &/or legal action.

They're basically a sort of techno/tribal type of thing - I rather like them.
Thanks for the tip about the licensing. I just listen to my own CDs.

Truth be told, I don't know whether either the PRS or Phonographic (Society?) would come barging down the door, but they might contact your org to ask whether you do use anything.
Once you've got the licence, then (unless otherwise wrangled) the PRS will claim the right to turn up and inspect your premises, without warning.

The soundtracks to the Matrix films are rather good, even to the later films.
