[Journal] Another fine weekend ...
Friday: Along to Dead & Buried, resulting in chatting to assorted LJers, and the purchase of the Devilish Presley Disgraceland CD. It's rather good. And then the bands came on - The Vincent Razorbacks had a good look - definite 50s rock'n'roller frontman, with a couple of Victorian bodysnatchers on rhythm and bass. And they covered Jack The Ripper with the aid of a wailing glove-puppet, so much kudos. Devilish Presley were good, but not the best I've seen them. I think Jackie's mike was turned down too low, so her backing vocals were occasionally hard to make out, and there was a little too much "c'mon everybody, dance" going on. I think there would have been more dancing with less exhortation. Last Days of Jesus Christ were, well, odd. High energy, and definitely giving it everything, but not entirely my type of thing. Lot of people seemed to enjoy it, though, so don't take this as being a write-off. Definitely an experience. And thence home before the tubes stopped - for some reason I just wasn't feeling like too much of a boogie.
Saturday: Got caught in traffic in the morning tracking down Croydon's local Parcelfarce depot (it's in Mitcham), and coping with the diversion they've now put in place to delay access. Made it just before they shut to pick up V's Ritual de lo Habitual and my Skyclad CDs from Amazon. Thence (late, sorry) to
meryc and
hsw's palace for a game of Cyberpunk, in which my l33t HaXor almost managed to get to tell the President of the USA "All of your satellites are belong to us", but someone else was handling that phone call. Failed to get the girl, killed no baddies, but did (help) save the entire planet. Ho-hum. And then home by way of The Ship, congratulating Zoe on her pre-spawning status, and getting my requests played. And then spotted
interior_lulu and
jero passing on the bus, heading for the station. Exchanged very brief pleasantries, before the bus doors shut ...
Sunday: And when I finally awoke and stopped doing plant watering type things, into the MineBringer, and off to
sushidog's house for the latest Vicarage Tea Party. Took the inner panels from the T-roof, but left the glass in - which proved to be a good plan once I hit the Milton Keynes stormfront. Slightly disconcerted to discover that the Vicarage is in fact just up the road from where another friend used to live, so slight flashback moment turning into the road. Arrived late (for a change), and was gifted the last cheese scone, which lived up to expectations.
sushidog then spent the rest of the afternoon reciting the new mantra "Have a muffin! Have a scone! Have some bread! More tea?". End result - vast carb intake, and feeling pleasantly full. Finally met
xxxkaranxxx, and had someone point out that I appeared to have accidentally got a scone stuck to the bottom of my clotted cream and jam. Temporary oversight. Silly conversations ensued, as did baked goodness and much tea in good company. It was decided that at some point we will have to drag
minusbat along, and just sit in a circle around him, saying "Tell us a story, Uncle Pete!", as he is truly anecdotally challenged. Huzzah for the Vicarage. (Hi to everyone else, including the two charming people that I was later informed were
girfan and
hirez!) And then a nice drive back in the company of
ladycat, with her singing, and me murdering songs as an accompaniment. There was also assorted "la-la-lala"-ing, as we both forgot lines at times. Didn't get too lost coming back through London (although this was probably because
ladycat was in fact providing useful directions). Slightly annoying because (due to some random driving on the way up), I thought that I had found a decent route northwards. Oh well, back to the A-Z. Good thing I like driving around, really!
