Very colourful, very floaty (including the same rubber-surfaced lake seen in Crouching Tiger), and very beautifully filmed. Definitely an epic (although not actually overlong) in the classic Chinese style. If you don't like watching people float around on wires while waving swords at each other, with a side order of angst, in beautiful surroundings, then this probably isn't a film for you.

This* just came to mind this morning, looking out through the kitchen window** ...
Leaves turn to fire
On the top of the cherry
Last days of summer
* if I've correctly recalled the haiku pattern
** and was then tweaked following a brief discussion of syllable counting, thus demonstrating that I'm not naturally perfectly poetic

Thanks to
valkyriekaren for a good weekend. And to everyone at The Ship (even though they probably aren't on LJ) for making Saturday night rather better than it could have been, and the Canary Wharf Cinema-going Collective for a good Sunday.

For those who've met them, Steve (the naked DJ) and Zoe had a baby girl this morning at 4.58, weighing 6lb 3oz. Both mother and sproglet are doing fine. And, bizarrely for something with Steve's DNA, it was only a couple of days late.
(One comment was that, if piercings could be passed with DNA, they'd be able to assist the birth with a large magnet ...)
(If you're not sure whether you've met them, this is them.)
