[Music/Poll] B-Movie Tunes

Just wondering (apropros of nowt¹) what tracks people associate with B-Movie?

Please reply with (up to three) tracks which you most identify with B-Movie (preferably in "$artist - $track" format).

[Poll #1107985]

¹ Well, OK, mostly apropos of bumping into a mate who used to DJ at The Stairway in Croydon, during what may be termed my formative years, and we were discussing the way people often remember clubs by the tracks played.

I can't really think of anything else that I wouldn't equally associate with other clubs.

That's fair enough! Doesn't have to be three tracks.

My answers may be a little skewed as I rarely ventured on to the dancefloor :)

I certainly do not recall hearing "Jump Around" which would have to be one of my favourite (oh, *that* song) tracks!

I'm going to have to hunt YouTube for the vid, I thought it was brilliant at the time :)

I would point out that although two of my answers are are trifle tetchy, there were plenty of other things that I really liked but didn't leap out and say "this is B Movie". It was the eclecticism that appealed, so if there were too many "this is B Movie" tracks it wouldn't have been as good.

Primarily, though, when the Irish stuff started it was generally time for me to leave.

Meself, I loiked the Oirish tunes. [grin] But they did tend towards a certain amount of rowdiness ...

It wouldn't be Irish if it didn't attract a certain amount of rowdiness...

Video for "Jump Around" - I had forgotten it advocates violence esp. violence to women :/

Watching "The Departed" really brought home the darker side of the American Irish, and this kinda reinforces it.

"I will never have to play Poison again"

I *hated* that song with a passion that you can not possibly begin to imagine.

[grin] I remember your enthusiasm when I put it in my set, so you didn't have to.

Ha! I'm not surprised, I hated it myself by the time B Movie had been going a couple of years (and I was an Alice Cooper fan). Poison at B Movie did remind me of [livejournal.com profile] scatterbeetle bouncing on the dancefloor though, so it wasn't completely bad.

It's bullshit, it's bullshit running through my ears, it's bullshit, I don't wanna hear this shite!

Actually for me there are loads of songs that I associate with B-Movie.

It was the main club that I started going to when I got into the "alternative" scene in London, so it's where I heard so much of the new music that I really liked.

Crap.

This makes me feel even more like I missed out on a Really Good Thing *sighs*

I have to agree with the comments above - it was the sheer variety of stuff played that really made B-Movie for me. A comment from someone on the last night probably summed up the music and the atmosphere best of all when he said, "It's like going to a house party with massive bunch of your mates." :)

[identity profile] d-floorlandmine.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye. Ziggy's comment when he came to a couple was "Hey, they're playing all my favourite songs. Really loud. And all my old mates are here."

This is true, although my chronological age is far greater than my mental age. ;p

*pouts*

I wish I could say the same. My musical tastes far outstrip my bank balance's capability to fulfill my desires...

I only went once and didn't dance so don't feel I can fill out your poll.

Ah, but for Whitby-goers, Nelly The Elephant meant Laughton's before it meant B-Movie ...

[identity profile] s0b.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
1) It's a Laughtons track rather than B-Movie one so I felt it best to save it for Whitby
2) John Peel once said you can tell a successful DJ gig when people leave at the end of the night in an ambulance. We certainly had a few blue light specials in the five years but I really didn't want to end the night with blood all over the walls which is why, at the last, I relented and didn't play it.
