Pseushi (n)
Looks like sushi, but isn't quite the real thing. As often found next to the sandwiches in Boots or TESCO Metro.

(I actually quite like it, but YMMV.)

I quite like the veggie sushi that tescos or M&S do and have it maybe once or twice a month.

No idea how it compared to the Real Thing, as I've never had proper sushi 9what with being veggie and all...)

I tend to have the pseushi about twice a month, too. Sometimes more. [grin]

I believe (though may be wrong) that 'proper' sushi is all in the preparation of the rice: it doesn't have to have fishes on it. So vegginess doesn't rule out properness at all.

Wasabi do (or did) fantastic roasted-pepper-and-tofu sushi, and I speak as someone who regards tofu with a great deal of suspicion.

It's a common misconception that sushi equals (raw) fish when in fact it's the rice that is combined with a number of ingredients (some of them fish or seafood).

They've stopped doing the £1 veggie sushi at the Tesco's I use. Aw. So now I go for Marks & Sparks's version which is the deluxe version - at £2.80!

I love having such low standards - it means I can live cheaply and get a great deal of pleasure from things that gourmands would turn their nose up at.

I will have to use that one, crediting you of course.

No problem - it's public domain now! [grin]

I do not and will never understand WHO thinks that the Japanese would EVER put the following into a nori or maki roll:
• CREAM CHEESE?!!
• PEPPERS?!
• SPRING ONION?!

AHHH!!

I LOATHE what is supposedly called 'Sushi' in supermarkets here.

Gah!

[grin] Well, I like spring onions in just about everything. But yes, good point!

it sincerely baffles me.

Food without guilt, but with plenty of NOM. You really can't argue with that.

You can get a third off until the end of the year if you go to Victoria's Yo :)

Yes, I know-I'm on their mailing list.
But, I'm going to be nearest to the one in Paddington Station and that's where I'll use my coupon. :)

Yeah, some of it isn't bad at all. However, most of the non-veggie ones contain tuna to which I object if I don't know the source.
Even some London sushi places like Tokyo Diner (which I heartily recommend, also for the non-sushi food) don't do tuna for the same reason.

Heh, nice.

I love this! And yes, I like both sushi and pseushi, depending on place and mood. [livejournal.com profile] kewpie_doll is right about the wrongness of cream cheese "sushi" rolls though - gah indeed!
