Last night was definitely fun. Arranged to meet up with the other Simon in London who hasn't seen RotK yet - [livejournal.com profile] childeric, along with [livejournal.com profile] lproven and the gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren. Arranged to meet up at 6 in front of the Odeon West End (the little one in Leicester Square), and, as per last night's SMS posting1, managed to coincide wonderfully with the premiere of the The Shortest Last Samurai. So managed to get crushed by assorted tourists, but might possibly have got a pic of the short cute scientologist. Ho hum. And thence to rendezvous with [livejournal.com profile] childeric and [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren in front of the cinema, to find that [livejournal.com profile] lproven had been delayed, but that my erstwhile associates had already purchased the required pieces of sturdy green paper2. Then we walked through Chinatown twice while searching for a swift purveyor of foody comestibles. [livejournal.com profile] childeric appears to have been hypnotised with a subconcious impulse, as he twice headed towards (admittedly quite well disguised) hairdressers, before [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren successfully steered us into a restaurant. Rather good, as well, even if her meal did arrive well after the rest of hours, and a duck-filled Christmas led to her having to over-ride an inbuilt tendency to order duck when in a Chinese restaurant. Having over-turkeyed for Christmas, I had no such compunction, and consumed a quarter crispy duck. [livejournal.com profile] lproven arrived just as we were finishing, so we repaired to a fine Belgian beer hostelry across the road, where assorted drinks were drunk and photos viewed3.

And then to the film, which was truly wonderful, and has already been covered in detail on everyone else's posts, I believe. More apologies due to [livejournal.com profile] lproven for the continual giggling from the two alleged adults sitting beside him4 at the various "Don't worry about not getting married to Rosie, Sam, at least you've got me" and "Three in a bed hobbit romp" scenes. Being an adult is over-rated. Fortunately, it was not his first viewing of the film, and so I was saved from having a plastic drinking straw inserted into my cerebellum via the auditory canal (his words). Following a discussion of the telescopic nature of hobbits, [livejournal.com profile] lproven and [livejournal.com profile] childeric then headed to the CrowBar to get some more drinking in, while [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren and I surrended to the vicissitudes of the Underground to head to our respective homes. Great night out - and I think I need to do that kind of thing more often5.

And I am so regretting revealing my middle name to my colleagues following a discussion on middle names. But have now managed to steer conversation round to a colleagues socks ... not sure whether that's actually an improvement!

1 And yes, I am chuffed at managing to fit the <lj-user> tag into an SMS post - especially with the length of my username ...
2 Erm ... so, come to think of it, I believe that I owe one of the abovementioned some coinage ...
3 Apologies once again to [livejournal.com profile] lproven. Sorry. [hugs]
4 [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren and I appear to share similar senses of humour ...
5 Subject, of course, to the fact that from next week, my MSc will be putting paid to much socialising.

What is your middle name?

Was an excellent evening, wasn't it? And I enjoyed my Chinese too. Errm, gimme some money for the ticket whenever or buy me some drinks or something.

But, yes, doing it again some time sounds fun. Maybe somewhere cheaper next time though... £10.50 cinema tickets are no joke.

I haven't seen LOTR yet, but I'm sure I would be giggling at those scenes too, in fact I was giggling during the scenes with Sam and Rosie in the extended DVD of FOTR *g*

Olfactory canal, m'boy.

Ta for footnotes 3 & 4. Appreciated & forgiven! :¬)

THAT was [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren?! Ohhhh! I DO know her. Well, from here, at least. We disagree about everything and squabble violently. %¬)

She doesn't look anything remotely LIKE her default usericon...

Sorry - wrong skull aperture! [grin]

And indeed it was her (unless there are two of them ...)
