Because I can just about fit the html for an <lj-poll> into an SMS - if I had a shorter username it would be easier, as it wouldn't take up so many of the 160 characters avaulable. And OK, I admit it, I was bored on the bus ...

You don't have to use the poll generator to create a poll - you can just use the LJ specific poll html.
