[Poke] What gets on your wick?

Following the fallout from [livejournal.com profile] gothgrr's rather interesting post, the fatuous part of my brain started wondering ... what gets people riled? What really gets your goat? Trivial or world-shattering, I don't care!

For me, one thing is definitely people who appear constitutionally unable to return CDs to the correct case, instead putting them in the case of the CD that they have just put on. After about a week, this can result in a fairly intensive search - and is even more annoying when you realise that you have taken six empty cases and an assortment of sound-effects CDs on holiday ...

[identity profile] trizia.livejournal.com 2004-02-10 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Agree with you totally on the CD thing. Even worse is just leaving the CDs lying out so they get scratched ... grrrrr :-(

Borrowing books and not returning them.
People who let doors swing shut when they know that you're coming through behind them.
Bus drivers who decide not to stop.

Indeed.

annoyances.....

[identity profile] godgirl.livejournal.com 2004-02-10 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)

i think one of the little things that i find really annoying is....

people who hang loo roll with the paper hanging down the back not the front!! ARGH!!!!!!

also, public toilets with broken seats....

....and auto flushing toilets that flush as you sit down as they react when you get into the cubicle but still have to take your coat off and hang your bag up and give you a wet bum!!

and people who leave pubes and wetness on the loo seat!!

*ARGH!*

erm... i have serious "issues" with public toilets!

:p

i'm sure there are more serious irksome things in the world but reading that whole toilet seat saga has set my mind in this direction.

oh you know what else annoys me?

tesco local not having tesco's cheap and cheerful sliced tinned mushrooms and sainsbury charging 3x what tesco do for soya milk!

*ARGH!*

oh and supermarkets not selling haagen dazs strawberry flavour.

the price of bell peppers...

muller light using gelatine in their yoghurt

tuna sarnies always being sold with mayo aleady on them.

the lack of extra firm morinaga tofu on sale anywhere in the uk

bad labelling on imported foods

loan advertisements on telly

london underground

crystal chandeliers

slow computers

web links that dont work

mothers who shout at children in public

the rattling of the bedroom door due to the draft

dust

blue biros

never having the right handbag

humidity

rain

mornings

winter

headaches

itchy eyes

loud music

dance music

gold horsehoe shaped earrings

people whose toes hang out over the edge of their high heeled peeptoe sandals

white shoes

grey shoes

tassles on leather jackets

ugly cuddly toys

ill fitting clothing

bad makeup

trapped wind

wrong numbers

jehovahs witnesses early in the morning

customs and excise seizing parcels from abroad

bamboo shoots and water chestnuts

too much oil in curries

lionel richie.....

people who wont admit i'm right.

:)

you know, i think i'm going to post this in my own lj too, as it's kind of a useful list for people to remember!!

.. and i can keep adding to it as i think of more irritations!

Ummm. Wow. That's quite a list! I was going to post a comment with one thing on it, but I think you've covered them all!

Aspartame in everything.
People who tell lies.
Those weird onions that, when you cut them open, have another layer of skin about halfway through them, which you have to pick out.
Laryngitis.
Gratuitous levels of geekery in a public place.
Rejection.
Hypocrisy.
Clothes sizes being radically different from shop to shop.
Fussy eaters (not counting vegetarians, vegans or people with religiously-defined diets).
George W Bush.

Outkast 'Hey Ya'.

[grin] I've caught the fallout from the "random clothes sizes" discussion before, and I can empathise!

And apologies for any instances of gratuitous geekery (trying to scrub over the Princess Louise discussion ...)

Re:

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
You were geeking extremely. But then, so was [livejournal.com profile] wechsler, and some other people whose names I didn't know.

that'll be the BOFHs :-)

Re: geeking

[identity profile] d-floorlandmine.livejournal.com 2004-02-12 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, it was more the result of unfortunate synchronicity between the set of BOFHs, the players in [livejournal.com profile] jhaelan's game, and people with experience as cadets or members of the Swedish armed forces ... there was something of an element of gun-geekery ...

I had a former housemate who ruined a pretty wonderful hard rock collection (his) by leaving the CDs lying around to get scratched. They're tougher than vinyl, but not indestructible, for pete's sake!

My gripes: leaving toilet seat up, not replacing toilet roll, leaving lights on, leaving dishes in sink 'til they go mouldy, litter especially cigarette butts and gum, noisy eating, not cleaning up as you go when cooking

Things I am guilty of: leaving dirty clothes on the floor, leaving my washing up for days

more

[identity profile] trizia.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
people who hit their kids in public
townie girls who don't wear coats even when it is really cold
leaving 2 squares of paper on the loo roll
not washing the bath
people who don't put their kids in car seats.

Re: more

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh gods, if we're getting into car-related aggravations:

People who don't put their kids in carseats/seatbelts.
People who don't restrain unruly dogs in the car.
People who leave dogs locked in cars on hot days.
Drivers who, in a line of traffic, pull onto a pelican crossing just to be a couple of poxy feet further ahead, even when there are people waiting to cross.
Drivers who don't indicate.
Drivers who rev their engines loudly at crossings.
Cyclists who ride on the pavement even when there's a proper cycle lane.
People who use mobile phones while driving.
People who eat while driving.
Those educationally sub-normal teenage girls who stand at the front of buses talking to the driver.
People who shout abuse from cars.
People who install massive stereos, chrome bumpers, fins and hubcaps in crappy little mini-metro type cars and don't realise they look like tossers.

Re: more

[identity profile] trizia.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, to all of them.

And addding, people who chuck litter out of cars.

Re: more

[identity profile] thalinoviel.livejournal.com 2004-02-15 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
considerably so. In fact, people who smoke out of car windows and flick their ash into the face of the filtering motorcyclist. You know this is actually illegal?

[identity profile] kissmeforlonger.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hah!

- people who drive in the middle lane of the motorway even though there's no traffic on the inside making it a pain to overtake them
- and people who weave in and out of lanes without signalling
- foodstuffs with totally unnecessary gelatin or whey in
- people being rude to someone serving them just because the person can't argue back - in fact rudeness in general completely hacks me off
- mouldy food left in fridges or dishes. Lack of hygiene in general. I can cope with clutter and dust, but lack of cleanliness... ugh
- anything that [livejournal.com profile] steer does :-)
- right, the one thing that is totally pissing me off at the moment is the doors at work. There are 3 doors into our corridor and the manager of the group we share it with has arbitrarily decided that two of them should be locked - without telling us. We now have to take keys to the toilet and warn all our visitors in advance. Grrrrr! It's not just the inconvenience it's the lack of consideration. And thank you for letting me get that off my chest!!

[identity profile] littleangel-103.livejournal.com 2004-02-11 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Gee I now feel really laid back...! Some pet gripes
- people who eat noisily
- people who make a huge fuss about giving their seat up on a bus or tube to someone on crutches
- people who take themselves too seriously
- parents who don't explain things to their children
- people who just don't care
- rudeness
