#1(barefoot in the builing), take-over of a commercial back (for purposes of stealing vault contents) using a terrorist front to get them febee guys to cut the power.
#2(barefoot in the airport), bombs in airport, I think for covering up drug dealing
#3(barefoot in New York), random bombs all through NYC fro purpose of covering up a break-in to the NYC-based gold reserve
#1 wasn't a commercial bank, just a company with lots of bearer bonds in the vault IIRC, with a bomb that they would blow up to destroy the evidence
#2 no bombs (apart from booby traps), take over of ATC for the airport (cue planes circling on not enough fuel), was for covering up the 'rescue' of a drug lord who was being extradited back to the US - with military unit defecting at the same time
#3 one real bomb in the underground to damage the alarm systems around the gold reserve (so they get turned off), one fake one in a school (to get all the cops searching schools) with a 'twitchy' detonator that responded to police radio freq (to make it even more horrible), another real bomb to 'pretend' to blow up all the gold, and escape to wealth - oh and lets not forget that it's the brother of bloke from #1, and he's sending $hero on wild goose chase around the city as well
Following the movie rules of next sequel=more plot twists... :)

Ah, yes. Ex-wife of $hero working for $firm (in #1) and same ex-wife on the airplane, wasn't it? I think the kids were on the flight, too. #3 featured at least one bomb (or fake) in a park, with some scales, (IIRC) requiring solving "we have a 3 vesel and a 5 vessel. Please make us 4s of water, on time".
Don't know where kids were in #2. It was $wife, not $exwife, they were separated, I think.
In #1 they were 'interviewed' by $sleazy_news_guy, in #2 $sleazy_news_guy was on plane with $wife, comedy with taser ensues. #3 had $wife at end of phone.
I thought that the 3 jug, 5 jug, make 4 before the bomb goes boom scene was absolutely classic! :)
Nice to see the alleged journalist sticking in the line "not thought to be linked to Islamic militants" just to reinforce the media line that all bad things in the world must first be assumed to be the fault of foam-flecked Koran-bashing towelheads. /bitterness /ashamed of my profession-ness
Yeah - except when it is obviously "blackmail for profit" - because that's too easily understandable a concept for the occidental audience, and not sufficiently inexplicable to be a motivation for Koran-readers ...
Tom Clancy had a jumbo jet crash into Capitol Hill at the end of one of his books - possibly Debt of Honour - written in the late nineties. OK, it was flown by a disgruntled Japanese pilot after a US-Japanese war, but still - the only instance I know of before 9/11 of commercial airliners being used as weapons.
