If you call me ...

Si - you are going to get on my nerves in the next forty seconds
Simon - you are almost anyone
Stuart, Steve, Daniel (?) - you are one of the many people who can't quite recall my name
Mr Stacey - you are probably official, sending me a bill, or taking the rip
Mr Landmine - you are Sean from The Ship in Croydon, and I claim my £5
Dancefloorlandmine - you know me online
d_floorlandmine - you know me from LJ, and have worked out how to pronounce "_"
Motorbreath - you know me from the Jorvick bulletin board in York1
Spanner - you are probably either [livejournal.com profile] minusbat or [livejournal.com profile] velvetfox (or, apparently, [livejournal.com profile] ellenscult), as I appear to have outrun the others who used to use that nickname [grin]2
Dad-man - you are one of my munchkin colleagues, who have apparently decided that my workplace mannerisms are deserving of a pipe and slippers
Hairy bloke - you are almost certainly [livejournal.com profile] littleangel_103
Sweetie - you are probably [livejournal.com profile] doja35, although there are a couple of other possibilities
You, you, you ... did you go to York? - you are probably at Wendyhouse, and haven't seen me for about ten years. The next approved statement is "Thought so. You haven't changed!"
Mate - you're the bloke who runs the local SPAR, who refers to everyone as Mate, in a very odd migrating accent
Dude - prime suspects would be [livejournal.com profile] lproven and Dan WINOLJ, but there are probably more
The Right Honourable Herbert J Pilkington Esquire - you think I'm someone completely different, and you're so wrong

Great, and now I've got Blondie's Call Me in my head, trying to contest with Skyclad on the headphones ...

1 It's the song I was listening to when first asked for a username, and in any case I'd just eaten a chicken kiev ...
2 Explanations may be forthcoming, but I wouldn't rely on it!

And one of my colleagues has just discovered that she can whistle (quietly) through her nose now that she has a cold ... you see what I have to put up with?
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:31 am (UTC)
As one of the people who know the explanation for (2), you haven't outrun us... :)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:31 am (UTC)
Damn.

But which explanation do you know? [grin]
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:35 am (UTC)
The one that goes...

After several descriptions of you and still not getting it, some person (who in particular I forget) eventually realized who they meant and exclaimed 'oh, that useless tool!'
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:36 am (UTC)
Nope. Close, but still wrong.

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] minusbat and I were reminiscing over the real reason, which involved Back To The Planet, Credit To The Nation, several hippies, and a kettle ...
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:43 am (UTC)
It's certainly the one that perpetuates in York-anecdote-lore.
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:46 am (UTC)
[livejournal.com profile] makyo's "Is that Spanner with one 'n', or two?" has to be the best understated one-liner ever.
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:47 am (UTC)
Arse. Looks like I might need to promulgate the truth, if only because it is longer and slightly more involved than that ...
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:34 am (UTC)
I still call you Spanner! And occasionally 'Oi, stoppit!' ;)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:38 am (UTC)
Sorry, will edit the post! [grin]
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:46 am (UTC)
Does she do requests?
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:49 am (UTC)
Who? Blondie, or [livejournal.com profile] ellenscult. Neither, AFAIK! [grin]
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:47 am (UTC)
"SPANNER! OI'M BORED! BUY ME A PINT!"
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:48 am (UTC)
well it is St Patrick's Day and where is Aideen? ;)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:52 am (UTC)
God, that takes me back ... and in answer to the question, not sure where she is at the moment, but there's a lot less of her than when living in York ... saw her at NMA, and she appears to have misplaced the weight that I and others have found. Apparently swimming is in fact the solution.
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:01 am (UTC)
Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] minusbat said the same this weekend!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:50 am (UTC)
And us select few who call you "Jonah"?
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:54 am (UTC)
Well, if I included RPG characters past and present, I'd be here for ages - I used to run several games in York, so have complete casts available ... in any case, I'm not Jonah, I just play him!
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:00 am (UTC)
There is that, of course. Though at least *one* character name of mine has managed to migrate to being a nickname for me (for some pretty obscure reasons).
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:52 am (UTC)
"how to pronounce "_""

well as that is an underscore, then "Dunderscore Landmine" (somewhat like 'Dunderhead' but shirley not ;-)

"almost anyone"
as always so near yet so far ...
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:59 am (UTC)
Tehehehehehehe
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:05 am (UTC)
For some reason I get the idea that someone was amused by that ...
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 07:55 am (UTC)
Tell you what you ask one and I'll ask the other?
If we’re both at Wendyhouse we could compare bruises?
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:04 am (UTC)
You think that [livejournal.com profile] ellenscult would stop at bruising?

(I can't comment on Deborah Harry!)
Thursday, March 18th, 2004 01:44 am (UTC)
Not if you're lucky :)
(I was originally talking about the nose whistling fiend :)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:18 am (UTC)
[a] What's worrying me is that started out as a sort of ironic joke, a pisstake of stereotypical snowboarderspeak between me and [livejournal.com profile] reverendjim. I fear it's become habit.

[b] Are you aware you're also "Bouncy Simon"? :-)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:49 am (UTC)
Are you aware you're also "Bouncy Simon"?

I wasn't ... [grin]

So which select group refers to me in that way? (Strangely appropriate as it may be ...)
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 05:59 pm (UTC)
I'm to blame. It's a way of distinguishing you from Dr Simon (AKA Dr Teflon) and indeed SB Simon, who might, I suppose, be Mopey Simon, but that's a little unfair...
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 08:49 am (UTC)
And also Sweaty Bloke
Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 06:00 pm (UTC)
[G]
Monday, March 22nd, 2004 06:27 am (UTC)
Dude! That was a pisstake?

Sweet.
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004 04:07 pm (UTC)
Hell, yeah, dude! But wasn't it, like, awesome?
Wednesday, March 24th, 2004 01:42 am (UTC)
Bitchin', dude. To the max.
Sunday, March 28th, 2004 04:06 pm (UTC)
Damn, he's good at this. I'm outclassed.

Mind you, I've never lived there for half a year...
Sunday, March 21st, 2004 02:24 am (UTC)
Hmph.

*I* call you Mr Landmine (on LJ, 'cause it's easier to type than your username) and sweetie!
Sunday, March 21st, 2004 09:49 am (UTC)
Sorry sweetie! [mwah]

And he calls me Mr Landmine in the pub ... [grin]
