Humankind was not intended for these conditions! (OK, more accurately, I wasn't. But what's a little evolution between species?) I want to go back to my nice cool flat!

Actually, it's OK in this office at the moment, provided I don't move too much and remain sitting about three feet in front of a fan ... but then it's on ly mid-morning ...

I know what to do in the cooler months - if I'm cold, I put more layers on. But in the summer, there are limits to how far one can remove layers whilst remaining a) seemly and b) aesthetic (especially in an office). So I spend summer in a state of general overheatedness. Plus, of course, one dresses for commuting (minimal layers), then the office has so much aircon that you get too cold, then you step outside and melt...

I'm English - I'm designed for drizzle. "Today it'll be a wonderful 27 degrees" - wonderful for WHOM?

Working for a charity has its avantages;
  • Able to sit here at work in shorts1 and a nice thin shirt with the collar open

  • ... and disadvantages;
  • What is this aircon of which you speak?

  • 1 A decent pair, rather than the customised combats which I wear for clubbing ...

    A pet hate of mine - weatherpeople who editorialise. Tell me the fucking temperature and whether it'll piss down or not - I'll make my own value judgement, thanks.

    You are SO right. Kill 'em all....

    With your usual icon, I would have suggested that that was just because of a personal dislike for The Weatherman, but ...

    They took out the aircon in my office sometime over winter. I have no idea why.

    I've been in flats like that. Fortunately, my new one is nice and cool, even when I'm out and the windows have been closed. Might be because half of it is almost underground, of course. Then again, maybe it's just karmic balance for being stupid enough to own a black four-wheeled greenhouse.

    Im freezing.

    they've turned the aircon up in our office quite high.

    I think i might go into thermic shock when i verture outside at lunchtime!

    I'd offer to think warm thoughts your way ... but that might get me in trouble! [grin]

    Theoretically we have aircon here. Then again, last week I had to phone up Facilities to ask why the heating was still on.
    Monday, June 7th, 2004 05:29 am (UTC)
    Yeah, what is that with the English? They have the heating on until July!

    I know, it's mad! Our heating at home went off at the start of May!

    I have the opposite problem. Work is lovely and air conditioned, but my flat is like an oven. Bloody freezing in winter too.

    It's boiling here, and it will get hotter as the day goes on - the sun will shine straight in the living-room window :-(

    Yeah, our first floor flat isn't particularly comfortable at the moment, especially in the spare room where we have both computers and my 19" Sun monitor. We have a pedestal fan but no room in here to put it so will need to get a desk fan. All the windows are open so my hayfever has kicked in :-/

    And please don't say that as an Australian I should be used to it :-P

    It's one of the advantages of a ground and lower-ground floor flat - on an east-west axis, with a south wall shaded by another house, but with an alley, which means there's airflow as well. And the trees in the road help shade the front, and those out back the back ... reminds me again of one of the reasons why I liked this one so much ...

    I am considering refridgerating various articles of clothing: ice blocks in the bed are also a consideration.

    Wear cold wet socks to bed. Feels horrible, but it does make you feel cooler.
