[Whinge]

Well, that was fun - something just tripped a fuse in one of the four-ways in our office¹, and successfully switched off the server and the ADSL hub ... Nothing like a quick bit of diving behing a switcher cabinet for boosting the adrenaline.

¹ Actually, not sure whether it was the 4way or the socket. Time for some investigation, because the water-cooler did seem to emit a pop and an odd smell, but doesn't appear to be on the same 4way - although given the way that extension cables run behind filing cabinets in this place, it's pretty hard to tell - think of the plumbing in Brasil

[Silliness] Mastering the art of comic timing.

Our Director of Operations is showing a potential funder around the office. We spent a chunk of yesterday making it presentable, and I even tidied my desk¹. They've been closeted in a meeting for the past hour. Then they do the "office tour". As they arrive in the open area behind my desk, I sneeze. Loudly². Three times. And then have to blow my nose. Loudly. Twice. Apparently the boss didn't look that impressed. My line manager has now suggested referring to me as Hornblower for the rest of the day.

¹ OK, not very much, admittedly, but I compiled some piles, and took home last year's Dilbert calendar
² Actually, they were only medium sneezes for me, as the windows are still intact, we don't need to go looking for missing monitors, and women dressed as schoolgirls haven't been whisked off with their little dogs to strange technicolor countries ...

[Evil People] My manager is twisted

We have a new member of staff joining our team on Monday, and I'm going to be setting up her login in a few minutes. To welcome her to the team, our manager is going to set up her desktop with a particularly tasteless picture of Peter Stringfellow, standing in a jacuzzi full of bubbles, wearing a black silk dressing gown, and holding a champagne bottle in an unsubtle manner.

¹ Yes, I am finally taking the Minelayer^TM to visit the mechanic, so hopefully I should soon be motorised again.

With refernce to this, I have circumvented responsibility, by not setting up the user account until it was too late for DD to work her evil magic. If she does it on Monday morning, she'll have to get in before the new starter, which, on past performance, might not happen ...

With reference to littleangel_103's query here, anyone got plans for a massed trip to see The Last Munchkin Samurai? I can't do Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays ... [grin]
