This was something of a last-minute decision - I'd packed my camera bag and dug out gigging garb in the morning, but then left it on the sofa. It was only around lunchtime at work that I decided to leave early(ish) (having been working long days earlier in the week), dash home, grab the gear and change and then drive back up to Camden to see whether I could get a ticket on the door. I bumped into assorted folks in the queue, and got in in time to see the last few tracks of
Adoration's set, which was excellent (even if the stage looked a bit cramped, what with three guitarists, a bassist, a vocalist
and a live drummer) - picked up the CD while I was there. The next act were
Raggedy Angry, who were apparently TBM's touring partners from Canada. They took the stage looking like a bunch of teenagers who'd listened to too much Marilyn Manson, and sounding much the same, but with tinges of, perhaps, Slipknot. Despite which, they actually grew on me (must be my metal background), and I ended up picking up their CD too - I have to admit I enjoyed the covers of
This is Halloween and
Gangster's Paradise (few things are as funny as watching a skinny white goth covering Coolio). And then they went off, the crush of munchkins at the front intensified (14+ gig), and
The Birthday Massacre came on, bouncing enthusiastically. With five members up front and a drummer, they again crammed the stage, but still spent a chunk of time running around it. I'd forgotten how much heavier they are live than on CD - I might have to pick up the live album. In summary, the crowd went wild, two pairs of rabbit ears appeared, and it was a rather fine gig.
