Got back from the stealth wedding (of which more later, with photos), and decided to get changed and head down to The Ship in Damnedtown, to see what noises were being perpetrated.

It was The Ship's Alternative Glastonbury, so a stage had been created out of beer crates, with the Guiness mat on top, in front of the decks. There was an Blue Peter cardboard version of the Pyramid stage perched atop the ledge above and behind the DJs. And, most impressive, there was a cardboard cutout of a "festival toilet queue" attached to the wall leading to the gents, to give that real festival feeling. Some straw hats were also in evidence. DJ Steve got all effusive at the end, saying that Sean and I were two of the people whose music taste he really respected - I'm not certain whether this is because I already share his music taste, because I'm doing a "best of KMFDM" compilation for his DJ bags, or because he'd earlier played My Boy Lollipop and wanted to make up for it.

Anyhow, the real reason for the "Woah" at the top, was that while bouncing around like a rather warm loon (they don't like me taking my shirt off in The Ship, and I'm not going to mess with Esther, the landlady), a face from my distant past appeared - Lisa, a lass who I went out with when I was 16, and hadn't seen since I went to university. She hasn't changed in 14 years. I, meanwhile, have gained several stone, a fair few inches around the equator, long hair, and a goatee. She still recognised me at once. I think I'm still in shock, and suffering some temporal displacement.

[grin] I'm routinely "recognised" by people whose identities I don't have the faintest clue about - but this may be because I fit a certain archetype of sturdy, goateed, curly-haired music fan - and occasionally they think I'm someone completely different. And people at Wendyhouse would come up to me and say "Didn't you go to York?", which was a fair few years back - but at least I had the hair and the beard then! Admittedly, Lisa did know me pretty well, but ...

If I can find it, I'll try to post the photo of me as a teenager, to scare small children with ...

One has one's suspicions - after all, it was a bright clear dry day, between about 2 and 3pm, on a reasonably wide road ... I'm wondering whether he'd had a particularly heavy lunch ...
