I was sitting at my desk, with my headphones on, listening to Siouxsie doing the Peel Show on Radio 1 (courtesy of this newfangled interwebnet thing). She was playing Nancy Sinatra's Bang Bang, which is rather good.

My phone rang. For some reason my subconcious mistook my headphones (two earpieces) for the telephone headset (one earpiece and a mic), so I reached out and pressed the answer button, and started talking. The headset, meanwhile, was happily sitting on my desk for at least a couple of seconds until my brain caught up with me, and I fumbled to change over.

And one of my colleagues noticed.

Maybe I should get my in-ear ones out, so I can wear both at once again ...

I hate it when people notice things like that.
Pistachios again dearest?

rofl. You need a set that attach to both and cut out or auto pause when you select the phone.

Possibly - but that's more complex and costly than just wearing in-ear 'phones that I can still hear through under the phone headset - it's what I used to do at my last office - a quick click on the PC to pause the music, and you're ready ...

Could you give me a link to the show Siouxsie did? I can't find it on the Radio 1 website :-/

You can get to it from here, but it's just listed as Wednesday's John Peel show, in the Alternative section. This direct link might work.
