Got this query by text on Saturday from a colleague (who was, strangely enough, in the pub):
What is the name for the hair that runs downwards from a man's navel?
I didn't know the answer (or even if there was one, and strangely, didn't fancy doing a websearch for it), so have now lost my crown (well, battered circlet of Cat5). Does anyone else want it? (Someone at work said that Alan Partridge had a term for it, but couldn't remember.)

Linea nigra. It's not unique to men; pregnant women often develop one.

I have one, and I've never been pregnant.

arg i'm pregnant! ;-)

I thought that meant the slight dark line you get in that place during pregnancy?

"Linea nigra - black line"

Also refers to the growth of hair.

I'm not sure there is a 'proper' word for it. I've heard it called 'snail-trail', 'stairway to heaven' and various other things.

Women get it too, and as far as I'm concerned it's called "a bugger to pluck once a week".

I call it body hair, or more specifically body hair below my navel. I'm pretty sure that's the technical term.
