Last weekend Cryonica Music arranged a multi-band gothic music event at the Cochrane Theatre in London, before it closes next month. It was slightly strange being in an all-seater venue for a concert, but for quite a few of the bands it fitted well with their stage style, either with sparse staging matching the sparse arrangements of Black Light Ascension, or the theatrical setting working with Maleficent's flamboyant stage work. ZodiacYouth had notably changed style considerably since their early days, having moved away from psytrance to a more psychedelic rock style - very competent, but possibly not what some were expecting.

What's this? A goth/electronica gig with good lights? Whatever next?

Yep, the lighting was pretty good (the advantage of having a full theatrical lighting set-up available), although much of it was from behind - there were unused lighting racks on either side of the auditorium, and I think there might have been an empty mount for a follow-spot in the gallery. There did seem to be some issues with the monitors, though, to make up for it ...
