No need to 'fess myself with damned eBay now. ravenlas has managed to unearth a spare 3C16965 cable, and is going to post it down to our office! Huzzah!

Admittedly, this did also lead to him musing as to whether there's any way to say "I've got your cable in my hand" which would get through a spam filter.

Yay! He rocks! Much kudos his way. And a thank-you letter. And possibly a certificate, if I get to play with the graphics software.

I'm curious, because I can't work it out (it's Friday, I'm likely to just be being a bit dim), in your first sentence "No need to 'fess myself with damned eBay now" what is 'fess short for?

No idea. More of a comedic mispronounciation of "fuss", mixed in with "mess". Mrs Malaprop meets mash-up culture. I'm sure it meant something when I wrote it.
Possibly badly transliterated Scortish, from poorly remembered reading of Stevenson as a sprog.
As in "Dinna fash y'self", or something ...
