As previously mentioned, there's a job going in our office:
Individual Fundraiser
SANE, a leading mental health charity, is looking for a dynamic and experienced fundraiser to develop income from individuals. If you have at least one years’ experience of donor acquisition and development, payroll giving, legacy marketing, tribute fundraising or working with high value givers, this exciting and challenging opportunity will further your skills and experience whilst making a significant contribution to providing help to people with mental health problems.
Salary: £26,000 (And yes, that's a fair slice more than mine, and rather good for us)
Please ring 020 7375 1002 or e-mail recruit(at)sane.org.uk, quoting reference FD1, for an application pack.
The closing date for applications is Monday 12 June, 2006.
Interviews will take place on Monday 19th June, 2006.
Good luck to anyone who goes for it.

Details are also on the SANE website and on CharityJOB

Are you saying that £26k is considered good!

I have to get you a job out here in commuter land sweetheart.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:15 pm (UTC)
It's good for this charity. We're still very cash-strapped, remember. And I'd prefer a job nearer to me - I don't fancy going through the palaver of buying another flat and moving again for the next couple of years!

I hope that didn't seem rude, I was just a little surprised as I assumed that all jobs in London had high salaries.

I just want everyone to move to North London and a little higher so I can see people more often ;)

[grin] No problem. You've got to remember that this is the charity sector, and an especially cash-strapped charity at that. To quote the Director of Operations when they calculated my new salary (incidentally, less than that):
"We work out how much you're worth, and then underpay you."
Which was at least numbingly honest!
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:45 pm (UTC)
Mine's less than that too.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:47 pm (UTC)
That's both reassuring and depressing at the same time.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:22 pm (UTC)
Sadly I've no strong arm tactics for money fundraising skills; but thanks for posting the link to the CharityJOB website though, I shall be thumbing through it from time to time. :-)

You don't need strong arm tactics for fundraising, just a nice approach and a pleasant attitude - these things have worked wonders for me in the past.

I nearly got back into fundraising just before my current job was offered.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:43 pm (UTC)
Sadly, even if I had the pleasant attitude, I lack the experience required for the job. :-(

Interesting...Fundraising isn't really my 'bag', but I am keen to write copy for charities. So if you do ever need an editorial person or something like that, please do let me know.

Is that something that's likely to come up in the future?
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:33 pm (UTC)
[grin] Probably not for us, I'm afraid. We've only got around fifteen full-time staff, and a number of them are English graduates/ex-journalists anyway. But larger charities might need someone to do that kind of thing.
Saying that, we do have two staff in Communications and Media Officer roles, and so those vacancies pop up occasionally.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:23 pm (UTC)
I wish I had the skills. That's a very nice salary...*sigh*
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 01:30 pm (UTC)
Hmmm, tempting.
Alas, absolutely no skills of that nature on my CV.

Bugger.

PS - thank you for not saying "You'd have to be mad not to go for it"
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 02:40 pm (UTC)
Tempting but my money raising experience is limited to certain funding streams.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 02:46 pm (UTC)
Well, that would be some experience of fundraising ...
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 02:58 pm (UTC)
But not really in areas that would help. It is funding to train people and send students out. Exchange type stuff. Hmmm.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 03:00 pm (UTC)
Well, you can always request the info pack and see what you think. Although you wouldn't have your own office.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 03:12 pm (UTC)
Heh, I don't have my own office now. I share with 4 people.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 03:13 pm (UTC)
Our office is open-plan ... [grin]
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 02:55 pm (UTC)
I added you and karen to my f'list. Add me back if you like - I'm not a miserable bastard *all* the time xx
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 02:57 pm (UTC)
Heh! I assumed I'd already added you! D'oh!
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 04:19 pm (UTC)
Bah, I don't have the experience, unfortunately.
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 04:30 pm (UTC)
[pout]
Oh well. [hugs]
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 04:48 pm (UTC)
Too bad the commute would wipe me out (physically and financially)!
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 04:53 pm (UTC)
Aye. Poot.
