Is it possible to create email addresses in Exchange (2000) which are not directly linked to a specific Active Directory user?

At present we have some 'generic' email addresses, such as 'recruit@domain1.org.uk'. At present these are hosted by our webserver company, and we set redirects on their system to the relevant staff (at 'person@domain2.org'), which change quite often, such as (in this case) when a new advert is placed.

As we want to use 'domain1.org.uk' as our new main domain, we want to shift all of our emails to the format @domain1.org.uk rather than @domain2.org, ready for the routing of all our email to our server, rather than the domain1.org.uk stuff going to them. I've created 'person@domain1.org.uk' secondary addresses for all of our users, and I'll be setting that to be the primary when the switchover occurs.

However, is there any way to replicate the current format for generic forwarding addresses, without creating a new user (a nominal "Mr Recruit") or creating it as a secondary address for an existing user, which would need to be deleted and recreared for a different user on a regular basis?

I just want an address which exists solely as a placeholder, really, and forwards to another address. But without having to create a new 'user' in AD. Am I barking up a non-existent tree?

[livejournal.com profile] capt_prickle has now resolved this for me - the answer is create a Group object in AD, configured as a Distribution List ... I should have known that. Bugger.
