Another shot of London at dusk from London Bridge - taken from the western footpath, this time. With bonus points for including both a river bus and a train in the same shot. [grin] And still that tracery of tower cranes at points in the distance ...

iXus 330, resting on the bridge balustrade.

Lovely. I have trouble getting sunset colours to come out properly. Sunsets that look red, pink and purple (like a gorgeous one last night) look washed out in the shots. Even this icon one was even more impressive IRL

Ah - there's two tips for that ... firstly, if you camera has a White Balance setting, and is set to "auto white balance", it can often assume that the yellow tints of a sunset are the result of, say, tinting from a lightbulb, and attempt to adjust for an average colour warmth. If you set the White Balance to "cloudy sky", it can get the camera to assess the colours slightly differently, and you get warmer colours. (That's one I read in a book. I need to actually remember to practice it more often! [grin])

Secondly, like with this image, you can do a bit of tweaking of the colour levels in PhotoShop/GIMP to increase the intensity a bit.

Cool, thanks!

You can have a play with Photoshop to get the colours to what you actually saw. My background is a sunset over my house! Plus what Himself said.

That's nice. Lovely and sharp and good sunset colours. Though I note that you touched it up in GIMP, so you lose a few marks there (mainly because you could have reduced the white glare in the sky, and brightened up the foreground that the ixus underexposed because it's auto-exposure was set on the sky) :)

[snork] I wasn't doing any tricky area-based changes, though ... just tweaked the base "value" level at each end a little bit. Didn't even have a go at the separate colour levels. Didn't want to overdo it. [grin] Also, I like the dark water and silhouetted skyline.

There was a smidgeon of sharpening, although that was partly to counter the slight blurring from resizing down to quarter area.

Don't you go docking my boy points! *poke*

There was an article in one of the weekend papers talking about selling your photos.

(I think I need a photography icon!)

Thanks! I suspect that'll have to wait until I'm taking pictures more than 1200x1600 in size, though, unless they're solely wanting them for online use!
