Anyhow, on getting home last night, we found one of those little notes that the Royal Mail leave when they couldn't deliver something - apparently a signature was needed. Fortunately, the Sorting Office is next to the station, so all that was needed was a quick detour on the way to work this morning.
The parcel turned out to be a sturdy hexagonal cardboard box, about two and a half feet high and a foot across, of a size suitable for transporting a single bongo drum. It would appear to be from a flower company, so expectations are for something Valentine-related. They offered to redeliver, but as that would simply consist of again knocking on the door of an empty flat, I opted to take it away with me.
Having now looked inside, it's a single red rose, with possibly the most amazingly secure packaging I've ever seen (photos are likely once I've got it home again tonight).
However, the truly infuriating bit is that the card was anonymous ... so I have no idea who sent it. At least two girlfriends, however, have denied all knowledge.
Comments are therefore screened¹, so that whoever sent it can admit to it, and stop me getting an ulcer! I'll be very very grateful. Especially if whoever sent last year's rose also admits to it, whether they are one and the same person or not! Thank you!
¹ Comments not owning up to sending it, or if permission is given, may well be unscreened.
