[Politics] Hope not hate

A party political broadcast on behalf of not-the-BNP ...

"In the upcoming elections in the UK, the far-right party the BNP are pushing for an unprecedented number of seats, and are possibly going to win some of them. They need 8% of the vote. This means that the more people that vote in the elections, the less chance the fascist BNP have of getting in.
Please make sure you are registered for the June 4th elections.
Please vote - for any party, except the BNP.
Please don't let them get in because of apathy.
Here is some information about Nick Griffin, the leader of the party - http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/the-real-bnp/Profile-of-Nick-Griffin.php

Here is some more information on the BNP - http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/the-real-bnp/

Some of you have LJ's and other blogs that are read by a lot of people. Please - it takes a few minutes only to just copy and paste this post into your own blog and make sure the message gets out. It doesn't take long to vote, and I'm not asking you to vote for any particular party that you might not have a high opinion of at the moment. Just vote for someone and stop the BNP."

Proviso - personally, I'm not that keen on the Christian Party, though - they may not be the BNP, but they've got a fairly high proportion of policies that I find unpalatable, even so.

I'd vote for the BNP before the Christian Party.

Although, in fact, I'll probably vote Green.

I like the Christian Party's policy on protecting sealife from overfishing.

Erm... and none of their other policies, which are variously bigoted, evil and self-serving.

Yes, that's about right.

I like the BNP's policy on the minimum wage and, erm, that's about it.

They're generally quite good on environmental issues. Not surprising, since they aim to appeal to the disaffected poor who don't feel they're getting much out of the endless pursuit of growth for growth's sake.

[Hem-hem not to be Captain Obvious but this is not an endorsement of the BNP's other policies etc]

This is why we need the Official Monster Raving Looney Party. They are a vital part of the democratic process.

Yep - the closest thing to RON¹ that the current political process identifies.

I actually met Screaming Lord Sutch at a gig once - my mate's band supported them.

"Vote for someone and stop the BNP"

I see. 'Someone' Yes its that kind of voting attitude that got us where we are today.

Cos incase they hadnt noticed theres quite a right wing party in charge at the moment.

Given that the BNP arent going to get enough seats to do anything useful Id really rather if this kind of request was going out that it said "Vote for someone, stop Labour and the Tories". I can find far more reprehensible behaviours in those partys than elsewhere.

Ironically, at the last general election, the BNP had the most socialist manifesto of any party standing in my local constituency.

Yes, this.

The Greens get more votes than the BNP. The country would be a better place if they got more attention than the BNP as well.

(I am a member of the Lib Dems and urge everyone to vote Lib Dem. Still, I voted Green in the last Euro elections, and they would get my second preference vote in this election, if I had one.)

Registered to vote for Sweden in this EU election (and I have, in fact, cast my vote, but I shARRRRRRn't tell you for who I voted, avast, avast, landlubber). If I hadn't, I would've voted for one of the many fine non-BNP alternatives, as they are truly Not My Party.

They sent a canvasser around yesterday, thankfully both me and my wife were unable to attend the canvassing, as that may, possibly, have ended up with a smack in the face (note to BNP canvassers, speaking ill of immigrants in a household that is 100% immigrant is Not The Smartest Thing In The World).

Strictly speaking, I think all of the pets are born in Britain, but they're not allowed to vote (I know at least two were born in that very house).

I'm away for 2 weeks over that date but have already sent in my register for a friend to vote by proxy for me!
Voting is something I feel very strongly about, if you don't vote you have no right to moan!!!!!
Needless to say I will not be voting BNP or Christian!
:-)
