A while back I discovered that dimmable LED bulbs were now an acquirable thing (previous LED bulbs having been sternly marked that they were not suitable for use with dimmer switches). So I gleefully skipped to the relevatn part of Wilko's website (I was there to order a half-price fleecy blanket at the time, admitteldy), and ordered one to go in the living-room uplighter. (The ceiling fitting is now mostly used when I'm looking for something and need more illumination.)

I soon discovered that said dimmable LED bulb, while it did indeed dim and brighten as the slider was moved, only came on partway through the range, and would occasionally buzz and often flicker annoyingly. A bit of research has since found that, while 'dimmable LED' bulbs are indeed dimmable, they are designed to work with LED-compatible dimmer switches, which means that they may not be a suitable direct replacement for older fittings. Which is somewhat irking. Another lesson learned.

Back to the halogen bulb in the uplighter, then.
