Well, the sofa delivery has been postponed to the weekend, so I will have to wait for recumbent goodness. On the plus side, have now ordered my cable installation, and they will be coming around a week on Wednesday to install it - which means that I will have a landline, several TV channels (some of which I'll watch), and 512k broadband. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lproven for getting the computer up and running 1.

Bizarre demonstration of pseudo-competence - one of our work pcs suddenly blue-screened, with no incentive. Attempts to reboot from CD revealed that it appeared to have lost the HDD - which caused much panic around the relevant desk, as it the machine with the FORMIC scanner and external drive, and is the only one with a SCSI port and FORMIC software. Having prepared them for the worst (waiting a week until my manager returns and we can order a replacement machine of the appropriate spec), I decided to plunge in regardless. Took the side off, unplugged the HDD, reseated the plugs ... and presto. It worked, impressing the staff member (and restarting her breathing) almost as much as it impressed me. Still not sure why, though ... although as I turned to walk away, I heard a gentle [clonk] noise as she turned her chair, and kicked the casing. The tower has since been moved from foot radius ...

In other news, am somewhat busy this week, so may not be able to catch up on LJ - if there's something I really, really, need to know, that was posted over the weekend, please put a [point] to it in the comments. Many thanks.

1 Another curry/chinese/kebab/pint may be provided if you fancy coming around to install the firewall at any point, sir ...

The sofa that had to be replaced was the prolapsed one, yes. It had been acquired from a vigorously practising but recently-out homosexual of my acquaintance and had probably seen its share of ugly-bumping in the past...

And yes, it was the horrid one you ferried from Broadway in the SU bus.

The sofa I bought to replace it is nice, and yellow. (and covered in a terracotta-coloured throw).

(for the benefit of [livejournal.com profile] steer and [livejournal.com profile] childeric, it was the sofa I brought that sat in the bay-window at Broadway. ;P

Aha - so not the one on which I was employed as a temporary seat cushion ...
