Yesterday I demonstrated my complete control of meteorology, as a rather dramatic storm with full sound effects (and added hailstones) began as I was considering the plans for the evening, which would have necessitated loitering on the street waiting for at least one person. I managed to acquire a spare brolly from the rack at work, which sheltered me until I could get to the newsagents to buy one for myself. At which point the rain stopped. However, the one from work was just the right length for "umbrella poncing", although I resisted the urge to demonstrate my inability to tapdance. Collected Al (WINOLJ) from the wrong tube exit (by way of a lengthy sequence of contacts - his mobile battery was flat, and he couldn't remember my number, so he landlined a mate in York, who then texted me with his location. Reminiscent of the US in Grenada). Then around the corner to collect [livejournal.com profile] mr_prickle from his sheltered location at a street corner, and off to the restaurant (Bengal Village) to await [livejournal.com profile] childeric, who had been delayed by sodden tubes. Seemed like good curries all around (my Prawn Puree and Chicken Kashmir were good), even if when it came to the hot towels and complimentary mints one of our party appeared to be invisible to the staff. [livejournal.com profile] childeric's phone spent much time attempting to be the centre of attention, and at the end of the meal he rushed off to attend to his fans, leaving the rest of us feeling slightly unwanted.

Sample conversation from the evening:
[livejournal.com profile] childeric: I don't understand why the Tube floods. After all, it's underground ... Oh.
Al (WINOLJ): And remember it's basically a series of pipes.
[livejournal.com profile] childeric (rallying): Yeah, so it could be watertight.
[livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine: Erm ... you'd still need to be able to get in and out.

(This one quoted because I can't remember all of [livejournal.com profile] mr_prickle's comments about sheep, and they weren't suitable for public consumption anyway (the comments, not the sheep, if you see what I mean?))

Just as if three different directors had directed the three couples in the play and then thrown them on stage. Interesting but like watching three sets of people in different bubbles, never really breaking out of their own spheres. Which might have been the intention! I prefer a more naturalistic approach. Definately watchable though and some great humourous moments - plus I disagree with the Time Out review who talked about misogyny in the play - I think it was there as an example of poor behaviour rather than being uncritical of misogynistic attitudes.

Interesting approach. Might have been a good depiction of the isolation of modern society - or an accident due to each couple managing their own direction to an extent ... [grin]
