My Eee has just decided, entirely of it's own accord, and without my even installing a patch or update, that it has a US keyboard¹. I'm running the default Xandros install, and this did happen last year (at which point I reinstalled the OS). However, the fact that it's happened again, together with the limitations of the Xandros install, have me trying to decide between two options.
- Find someone with a Windows XP CD, say "sod it", and install XP on the damn thing.
- Find someone who knows about 'real Linux' (ubuntu or similar) and install that.
I don't have an XP disk, nor do I know anything about Linux, so either option is currently a moot point. I am, however, getting frustrated with the Xandros install. It would be nice to be able to install the latest version of GIMP. (XP would also let me use the other Windows photo-shunting software I'm used to, but that's not quite as big a pull factor).
¹ In complete denial of the "Keyboard" selection on the "Personalisation" popup on the "Settings" tab, which states "English/UK", and won't even accept a change to "English/US" (I had a go, to see whether I could change it to US and then back to UK to fix it - but it wouldn't go away from so-called UK.
