While channel-flipping, I chanced upon Sheriff Bouffant Orange-Skin (Retired), the narrator of Most Banal Commentaries for Police Video, who, during the "Tank loose in San Diego" clip, continually referred to "military tanks". I knew that the American passion for SUVs had led to a civilian Hummer, but does that mean that they now have "civilian tanks" as well? Where can I get one? And how many miles to the gallon does it do?
(I'll avoid the traditional "Where could I park one?""Anywhere you like" joke - well, at least in the main body of this post.)

I see what you mean now. They must all be military in origin I suppose, unless, of course, one can buy them in kit form.
*pictures this happening*
*is now scared*

There was a story about a supply sargeant stationed in the desert, in, I'd guess, WW2, who ordered the separate components to build up a tank, piece be piece, just to see if he could. As each component has a part number, and he had a big stack of requisition forms, he managed it. The problem came when it was time to go home, and they didn't have the transport for the spare tank (or rolling stock inventory), as according to the records it was merely parts, so it had to be left behind, under a sand dune.
Possibly apocryphal, but quite amusing ...
