Listening to the Hellboy score at the moment. The film rocks, by the way. However, while the music is rather good, and there are handy titles to each track, the sequence of titles (and, presumably, the sequence of tracks as well), do not seem to match the sequence of events in the film ... in any way. Why, oh cruel world?

*waves* at you.

You know, irked is such a good word.

Perhaps, when they put the sound track together, they did it this way on purpose just to annoy everyone. I find this more than plausible.

The only other reason I can come up with at the moment is to prevent anyone being able to identify the plot arc of the film from looking at the track order ... but that's just annoying for everyone who bought the soundtrack after hearing it at the film ...

Almost as annoying as the fact that the Blues Brothers soundtrack album has the tracks in the wrong order. Well, not strictly annoying, just slightly annoying, like having a small something in your shoe, that's not actually painful, just antagonising over the long haul.

This is going to annoy you all afternoon isn't it?

*strokes hair soothingly*

At least with the Blues Brothers the tracks very much stand on their own merits happily :)

Is there any particular reason why it should?

You hear them on the record in completely different circumstances than you do in the film, and without the pauses between them. Presumably they thought that as music, without these factors they would work better in a different order.

After all, nobody insists (I hope) that songs on a pop album run strictly in the order they were written or recorded.

I suppose it's just my sense of "rightness" that's offended - especially as the first four tracks are in the right order, but then they seem to have given up. [grin]

I have noticed that this happens quite often on soundtracks (less so if it is a clasical score throughout) and ofcourse you have different versions/ things tracks missed out and added and in the case of the Blair Witch project where there was no music so they just made a soundtrack up (I remmber the furore about it and compalining, but why peopel did not cotton ontot hisbefore the bought the album I do not know)

Ah. I expect they cunningly included the phrase "inspired by" in the title.

Oh no - they went one better - it was supposed to be "Josh's Blair Witch Mix" - the tape that he put together for the road trip to Birkettsville, which was found in his car ... [grin] Actually, it's a pretty good compilation - Skinny Puppy, Lydia Lunch, Tones on Tail, as I recall ...

I've got (and rather like) the Blair Witch compilation, but you're right, I wouldn't have called it a Soundtrack. [grin]

And the Hellboy soundtrack (at least on the CD) is a classical score throughout.

You mean it doesn't have that fantastic cover of Red Right Hand? That made me giggle so hard!

Unfortunately not. Which is a bugger, because I rather like collecting covers, as you may have noticed ... [grin]

I must admit that I had pretty low expectations for the film really and I was wrong. It was cheesy but intentionally so and in a way that really worked quite well. It's certainly one of the better comic adaptations - not as good as Batman Returns though - meow!
