Aye - I had to look it up because one of our fundraising team had a document with over a hundred hyperlinks in it, none of which she wanted, and she didn't fancy dealing with them one at a time. I thought others in similar boats might find it handy.

Nice trick. Does it just work on hyperlinks, or other text formatting (like highlighting, tracked changes etc)?

[grin] As for that, I have no idea, but feel free to have a play. I found it by Googling for "remove hyperlinks", but there may be an alternative.

For the highlighting (if you mean Word's little highlighting of words thing you can select, if you select the whole document, you can simply select the "no highlighting" option (I've got it on a toolbar, but I can't remember whether that's a bit of customising).

Of course you could have just looked in the help within Word - it's pretty comprehensive these days.

Search for 'regular text' and it's the top result...

Which version of Word, though? It's not mentioned in 2K's help, even when you search for 'remove hyperlink'. Nor under 'regular text', that I saw in a brief check.

The help started getting better in 2000, but really got a lot poured into it in Office XP. Office 2003 added more example type stuff, and the current version, Office 2007 has probably more data in help files than application files.

Aye, although I am in the process of drafting our IT plan ... a slightly scary prospect ...

Of course, only our newer machines would probably be able to run anything past XP ... or fit it on their HDs ...

2K's help was definitely better than earlier versions, although the improvements seemed to mostly be to the Word help, rather than the other apps. We do have a couple of machines running XP, and they have more useful information on the other apps ...

I'd avoid Office 2007 if your users aren't ready for it, the user interface has been completely re-written (Vista-ised if you like), so there's a bit of a retraining issue. But Office 2003 is sufficiently like Office XP on the surface for them to adapt easily.

We haven't rolled fully out Office 2007 yet, but we have a few people using it. Mainly those that need more than 65,000 rows in Excel (that limit has gone in 2007). But we probably will when we roll out Vista later this year (now we've finished testing it with all our apps)

Most of ours are using 2K ... although I do sometimes get annoyed by the XP interface for setting up the Exchange connection in Outlook ...

You can set up all the Outlook settings through Group Policy on your domain controller. Then it'll be how you want it.

Microsoft are putting more and more emphasis on centralised management these days. Which makes sysadmin jobs much less tedious.
If you deploy the initial install with RIS/WAIK, including unattended installations of Office, Acrobat etc, and then control what users can do with Group Policies and keep the systems patched with WSUS, and use VNC or Remote Assistance for tech support issues, you hardly ever have to leave your own desk!

VNC, however, I do use - even just for overseeing the install process from a desk away. Yes, I am that lazy.

A quick check of the default settings on the HP Security Tools BIOS monitor revealed that these laptops have the network boot disabled by default. Nice of them.

You would want Network Boot disabled by default, otherwise it'd be doing it every time you turned it on with a network cable plugged in. So you enable it, do the install, then disable it again. Or it's often there on a 'boot from' menu, like where you'd choose to boot from CD or USB (or floppy if your PCs still have them!).

Second camera being my mobile phone, which has no macro mode - hence it's out of focus.

I'll probably do a better one next time I can take a photo with someone else's camera (eg the one at work).
