Due to various issues, we (valkyriekaren and I) have our WGW 07:2 tickets, but nowhere to rest our weary heads. Does anyone have a bed/sofabed spare which we would be able to purloin for the relevant weekend? K's offering her superlative culinary skills for at least one night and I have a cool car (as if that would help - but I can help with shopping, and might consider a trip out to the moors at some point - especially if I have my new camera by then).

I have a friend (WINOLJ, until we convince him of the error of his ways), who is looking for work in the Mac OSX support type field (and possibly such others as his aptitudes suit).

Can any of you lovely folks out there suggest agencies upon whose mercies he should throw his CV. Also, any other advice for currently unemployed support type folks?

We're trying to convince him to set up an LJ/website with his details on it, so that it would be easier for you'all to give him some advice, but he's somewhat disheartened at the moment.

freeqboi has a bit of a problem with a laptop hard drive.

The drive was caught by a power failure during system restore, but his mate wants some family photos off it. freeqboi has suggested hooking it up to an another machine as a secondary drive, but it would appear to have proprietary connectors (HP/Compaq) rather than classic 40-pin ribbon. Is it possible to get an adapter?

If anyone's got any advice for him (and I know some of you are practiced rescuers of laptops), please pop on over and share it!

Part of me is tempted to take a leaf from the advice you lot always give me and suggest using a CD-booting Linux distro to investigate the drive in situ, but I suspect that, like me, he doesn't speak Linuxian.
