[Nexus] Champagne query

[grin] I won't ask whether anyone here knows anything about champagne, but I don't, personally.

We've got some bottles in the office, left over from an event, and the Fundraising department is wondering where on the scale of "good" to "pour down sink with nose held shut" they are ...

According to the label, it's "Sarcey Brut Champage Champagne", with "Private Cuvée", but there's nothing so classy as a date.

What is this stuff?

It's dry, a blend (but good with it)

Off t'internet:
Cuvée (1) French word for "vat". (2) French refer to a wine as Cuvée if it is a specific blend, typically derived from different varietals/vintages. These wines are thought of as high quality and are most often, not always, a sparkling wine.

BTW - if you ever have the chance, avoid Indian 'Champagne'

Cheap stuff - you can get it for 15 quid a bottle. Don't expect miracles.

Of course expense is relative.

Does it say "Private cuvée" or "Prestige cuvée"? The latter is the expensive one, generally it means the best bottles from a producer. The former is probably cheap shit ripping off the term of the latter without legal infringement.

1. Fizzy bubbles make world sooo niicsh!

2. The teeny tiny bottles are best because you can drink them all to yourself with a little black straw and still look glam... that never seems to work with normal size bottles.

This is my professional field, so I can help. Tell me exactly what it says on the label. At a guess from what you've said it might well be Justerini's private blend, so not bad and perfectly drinkable, especially if one wants to make Champagne cocktails.

BTW, most of the Champagne produced is non vintage, as blending of wines is how the houses maintain their respective styles, so the lack of a date is not really relevant.

If they don't want it I can find a use.

OK - the main label looks like this (I would take a photo, but I don't have a working card-reader in the office at the moment):

75cl ÉLABORÉ PAR BOIZEL-EPERNAY-FRANCE MA-1135-71-00120 12% vol

The collar simply has the words "Sarcey Brut Champagne Sarcey" on the front, and "Brut" on either side, with the handy warning on the back "Contains Sulphites". Cheers!

I note it is the cheapest listed at http://www.divinefinewines.co.uk/default.asp?p=12779 but it might be moer drinkable than I thought (on a hot day when you are less concerned about quality, etc)
